A MEET WITH THE ROTARY DISTRICT GOVERNOR

 

 

Excitement filled the air as the members of the interact club from the PSBB Millennium school got ready to go to the GRT Grand Hotel. The Rotary Club

Madras T.Nagar held a meeting at the GRT Grand Hotel .

 

 We as the part of the interact club got the privilege to meet the Governor of the Rotary Club Mr. Sampath Kumar .Everyone arrived around 7:00 pm. The president of the Rotary Club, Mr. Vipin Agarwal ,and wife ,Mrs. Seema Agarwal, invited everyone with a warm and hearty  welcome. The President, the other Rotarians, the Interacters, the guests were all dressed in formals. The meeting started at 7:30 pm.

 

Mr. Vipin Agarwal started the meeting with a warm welcome speech . There was a video on the services rendered by the Rotary Club in the year 2011-2012. Watching the video everyone could tell that the club had brought smiles to many. There was also a live band and a singer who was visually impaired, had a beautiful voice which filled our ears and hearts. Later Mr. Sekhar who devoted his life into helping the disabled showed a video that touched all of our hearts. He believed that there is a talent beneath all those people and helped them. After that the Rotary District Governor ,Mr. Sampath ,came forward and gave a thought provoking and mesmerizing speech. His speech inspired us to help the needy even more.

 

Apart from our school interact club members from PSBB Nungambakkam were also present. The meeting ended with a magnificent feast with wonderful music playing behind. We all enjoyed our self a lot and wished this day would last forever. But all good things must come to an end right?? We all left with a filled stomach, hearts and a wonderful memory!!!!

3-DAY THAI VIZHAA COMES TO A CLOSE!!

Thai Vizhaa 2012

27th to 29th formed the 3 – day Thai Vizhaa Celebrations of Bharatiya Sanskriti, the Cultural wing of The PSBB Millennium School.

Friday, 27th January saw Evergreen Melodies belt out some of the favourite old time numbers dating back to the 40’s to the 80’s.  The assembled audience was transported to the era of Vishwanathan and Ramamurthy and Illayaraja.   Foot tapping numbers with melodious music had a special effect on the audience who were mesmerized by the lilting music.

They started the programme  by playing “Kannan Vanthu Paadukiran” song instrumentally.  Other songs like “Manathil Oruthi Vendum’ , “Isai Kettal” , “Sankara” from sankarabharanam’  “Pani Vizhum Malarvanam, Thendral vanthu , was rendered that  was appreciated by one and all. Very old songs like “Senthamizh then Mozhiyal” , Oh Rasikkum Seemane” brought immense appreciation and applause from the audience. One of the lead singers also mimicked Sivaji Ganesan’s dialogue as part of the song in ‘Malarkalai pol Thangai’. Totally they sang 19 songs and the programme was concluded by singing “Athisaya ragam” and “ Ennirandu Pathinaru”.

Saturday, 28th January  will always remain etched in the memory of the audience for the superb presentation of Shakti by Anusham Group of 6 young dancers.  Presenting the 3 shaktis – Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati and connecting the same to the mortal mother, the dancers gave a stupendous performance.  Their movements were poetry in motion.  Their synchronization was breathtaking and their expressions brought out the emotions of the song being danced to.  The audience was moved to tears with the presentation on ‘Mother’.

Sunday, 29th January – UAA proudly presented Venkata3 a comedy that had everyone laughing out of their seats.  The audience hung on to every word uttered by the artistes and enjoyed their comic timing.  The play also had a note for the audience in that, as humans, we should not try to equal ourselves to God in trying to create another human through cloning.  Dr Mrs YGP who was present for the play congratulated the artistes and reminded the audience about the roles and responsibilities we had as human beings.

The 3 day Thai Vizhaa came to a successful end.

MILLENNIUM FIESTA 2012 A SUPER DUPER SUCCESS

The Millennium Fiesta 2012 on Thursday, 26th January began with the hoisting of the tricolour in celebrations of the 63rd Republic day Celebrations.

The senior choir sang Thayin Mani Kodi and other patriotic songs setting the mood for the Republic Day and making the assembled crowd feel proud to be part of this Swarnabhoomi.

Thereafter it was a day of rcking music and presentations as part of the GO DESI theme of the Millennium Fiesta that had the audience asking for more.  Young talent in the form of students from classes 9 to 11 gave performances belting out numbers from the hit movies.  Their talent was appreciated by one and all present. 

The inmates from Prema Vasam also attended the Fiesta and were given a free entry at any stall they wished to play. 

The Millennium Interact Club had also used the opportunity to showcase the talents of the students of Need Trust, an organisation that helps people who are differently abled.  The students from this organisation presented some dance and music, rendering songs they had practised for the occasion.

The next team to perform were from the St Louis Band who had the audience in their hands with their rendering of Kolaveri and other latest hits.

Hourly prizes and lucky draw recipients received their gifts and coupons given by the donors.

At 4pm the final raffle prizes were announced and the lucky winners walked away with amazing prizes the top prize being a Samsung Tablet!

The stalls put up by the students generated a lot of fun and frolic and the games kept everyone occupied.  The stalls also generated a lot of money.

The jewellery stall and the handicraft stalls also had their share of contributions towards the noble cause.

A few commercial stalls that were put up received a fair share of the crowd.

At the end of the day the crowd dispersed feeling happ about their achievements and contribution.

Kudos to Mrs Swarnalakshmi Ramesh - Coordinator of The Millennium Interact Club, the President Anshumaan Iyyangar of Std XI and his board of directors and other Office bearers for the fantastic display of team work.

The proceeds of the money collected will go towards the construction of a compund wall for the restroom built for the Kolapakkam Panchayat School.

A part of the money will also be used as scholarship for the girl children in the Kolapakkam Panchayat School.

VALENCYNE DAY CELERATED AT PSBB - REPORT BY MRS. SWARNALAKSHMI RAMESH

REPORT ON VALENCYNE DAY- CHEMISTRY CONTEST FOR TEACHERS

Date: 18th January, 2012

Chief Guest: Prof Dr.Mangala Sunder (Department of Chemistry-IIT Madras)

Venue: PSBB Nungambakkam, Chennai

The PSBB Nungambakkam School celebrated the dawn of International Year of Chemistry with a difference. A chemistry contest for teachers was organised and many city schools were invited.

The participating schools were Bala Vidya Mandir-Adyar, Chettinad Vidyashram , Vidya Mandir, PSBB KK Nagar, PS Senior Secondary school, The PSBB Millennium School,Gerugambakkam and Pon Vidyashram – Valasaravakkam branch and Injambakkam Branch.

The programme started with a prayer song followed by welcome address by senior students of PSBB Nungambakkam. The dignitaries were Mrs.YGP-Dean and Director –The PSBB Group of Schools, Prof Mangal Sunder-IIT Madras, Mr.Srivatsav – lecturer  (Biochemistry), Mrs.Vijayalakshmi-Advisor – The PSBB Group of Schools, Mrs.Valli Arunachalam – Principal, PSBB Nungambakkam. Every participant was introduced and was welcomed with a flower and gift pack.

The rules and rubrics of the contest was explained and each round was conducted as below;

·        Dexters Laboratory:

The contestant had to identify 2 basic radical, 2 acidic radical and 2 organic compounds. The contestant had to also pipette out 13.5 ml of water in a beaker provided. 3 Viva questions relevant to the activity were asked by the students with a given time limit of 3 minutes.

·        Scientific tutor:

To teach a  concept in chemistry using the articles given for 2 minutes.

·        Trouble Bond - to speak for & against a topic.

The students gave very interesting topic in chemistry and the contestant has to speak for and against the topic for 1 minute.

·        Litmus test:

 A sound muted video was screened and the teacher has to guess the topic based on the discussion by a group of students. The students were spontaneous, creative and gave lot of clues to find the topic.

·        Crystal Gazing- (Futuristic thinking) - answering an open ended question.

This was asked by Prof Dr.Mangal Sundar

The question was “If you are discovering an element what are the expected properties of the .

Element and what will you name it and why?

The expected answer was the properties cannot be decided by us as it is naturally occurring(it is a discovery, not an invention)

Learning’s:

·        As teachers we have to explore as many creative ways of teaching science.

·        I need to train myself to be spontaneous and to establish connection between different things with science

·        Using objects that are around us to explore science.

Even though the questions were mostly designed for Chemistry teachers of Senior Secondary School, we  enjoyed the challenge and came back with a 3rd prize awarded to Mrs Asha Sundar.

YATIN AGARWAL GIVES A SUPERB PERFORMANCE

Yatin Agarwal gave a bright start to the year with his splendid Bharatanatyam performance at the school's MPH on 6th January 2012. Yatin, 19, pursuing his under graduation in Finance and Economics at USA is a disciple of Smt. Anita Guha. He started learning Bharatanatyam at a very young age.

 

Yatin begun his recital with 'Pushpanjali', invoking the blessings of Lord Nataraja in Valachi ragam.

 

This was followed by 'Shabdam' in Ragamalika, an item potraying the life of Hanuman in 3 different stages.

 

The third presentation was Ksheerasagara Shayana, meaning 'the lord who rests on the ocean of milk(Sriman Narayan)' in Devagandhari ragam, composed by Sadguru Thyagaraja swamy. Gajendra Moksham and Draupadi Vastra-apaharanam was depicted very well with a high quality series of 'Abhinaya' from Yatin. Expressions of Shakuni and Yudhishtira brought thunderous rounds applause from the audience.

 

Daachuko , the last krithi by Sri Annamaacharya in praise of Lord Sri Venkateshwara was an excellent presentation by the artist. He enacted the role of the 95 year old Annamayya with perfection.

 

Yatin concluded his program with a vibrant tillana in Poornachandrika ragam.

 

Academic Advisor, Mrs Rukmani Mothilal, Principal Mrs Sita Umamaheswaran, senior teachers, proud parents of Yatin- Mr. Vipin Agarwal, President of the Rotary Club of Madras, T Nagar, Mrs Seema Agarwal and students from classes 9-11 were present.

 

Each and every student from classes 9, 10 and 11 enjoyed the program. On the whole, it was a great performance!

 

Renowned vocalist Smt. Jayalakshmi Santhanam who graced the occasion, enthralled the audience with her rendition of a beautiful song 'Shanti Nilava Vendum'.   It was a befitting end to a wonderful program.

Report on Christmas Day Celebrations

We celebrated Christmas am on 23rd December 2011 at multipurpose hall in our campus. Classes from I to VII std. were the audience. More than 175 students from the above mentioned classes were participated in various events such as choir, nativity play, a small skit (indicating the significance of loving, caring and sharing with poor people), dance, reading the verses from the Holy Bible, significance of Christmas tree, santa etc. The program for primary started from 11.30(am) to 12.30(pm) and   classes VI &VII from 1pm to 2pm respectively. The program was organized well and it is started with opening prayer.  A good compereing was done by the students of class 8.   

The main focus was the birth of Jesus Christ and the prime purpose of his coming to the world is to save the mankind were portrayed well through the play. All the events were very well displayed. The program ended with the arrival of Santa. Children left the MPH with the festive mood. Teachers and students enjoyed the whole program.

Field trip of class 9 and 10

Field Trip to Egmore Museum

 

Today our school organized field trip for classes IX and X to egmore. We arrived at the museum around 10 am. First we entered the sculpture exhibit. There we saw sculptures of Indian gods and goddesses which were more than five dynasties old!! We also saw many ancient sculptures of South Indian languages. We were able to read the Tamil scriptures. Next we went to the coin exhibit. We saw coins from different places and times. The Chola dynasty Mughal dynasty, Angelo Indian coins from the time of British rule and even coins we use today.

Next we entered the magnificent bronze gallery overflowing with gods and goddesses made out of bronze. Most statues were of the gods Nataraj from kancheepuram, Tanjore etc. there were also statues of Buddha from Nagapatinam and statues of Mahaveera and Yakshi Ambika from Tinidivanam.

After having a cold drink in the Aavin parlor we proceeded to the children’s gallery. There we saw the different civilization and different cultures like: - Greek, Hebrew, Egyptian, Indus valley, Babylon, Japanese, Singaporean and Chinese. We also saw origami arts in Japan.

Then we headed to the enormous dinosaurs to the gallery of contemporary art. There we saw assortments of items made out of wood like model ships & ivory like jewelry boxes and playing cards.

There were many abstract paintings and the cock fight seemed to be a class favorite along with other oil paintings. Before they forced into a bus we again had a short snack and sneaked into the Biology exhibition which we just couldn’t miss. There was almost every animal on earth over there. We saw a huge model of a shark. It was a very good and very interesting but all the good things must come to end. So we all boarded the bus and came to the school again.

 

This is a field trip we would never forget and would love to go there again!!!

Here we are at a trip to the Egmore museum on 22.12.11. The moment we entered the 1st thing we saw was a cannon used by Tipu Sultan & a different type of palm tree which was called as Travellers palm. 

Then we made our way into Gallery – 1. In front of the gallery there were two sculptures one of an elephant and the other one a rhino.  Inside the gallery we saw a sculpture of Lord Buddha. We also saw a collection of publications of the museum. There were ennumber of sculptures of Gods and Goddess like Ganesha, Shiva, Parvathi etc,. There was also a small model of the museum inside the Gallery. There were also manuscripts of poets Subramaniyan Bharathiyar. There was also a historical medieval art of Kalinga. There were aslo numerous no. of displayed arts of Bhuvaneshwar temple. There was also a display of the step by step improvement of Indian scripts.

After finishing Gallery -  1 we made our way into the Bronze gallery.  There was also a fossil tree trunk which was atleast 20 million years old. Once we entered the ‘Bronze Gallery’ once again we saw Godly statues. There were also statues of Great Kavi’s like Appar, Manikavasagar etc,. Also the statues that we saw were made of bronze.

We went to the coins gallery and saw different types of coins. Here we saw the evolution of coinage.  There were also coins made of pure gold. There were also Rs.1000 notes which were large.  Some coins which belonged to India during the British era were also displayed. 

Next we went to the Children’s museum and saw different varieties of Indian dance. Then we saw different civilizations of the World. Then we saw Indian and exotic clothing.  There were also Origami paper foldings and Japanese artworks. There was also a step by step evolution of early man.

As soon as we entered the skeletal museum we saw a huge skeleton of a whale. Then we went into the birds section and saw different types of birds(stuffed and skeletons) along with their eggs. Then we went into the reptiles section and saw different snakes(stuffed and skeleton) along with dead ones conserved as a specimen. Then we went to the mammals section. We saw the skull of an elephant along with different species of monkeys.

Next we went to the Geology section. There we saw how the earth looked as soon as it was created. Then we saw different types of rocks. We also looked at other planets which were of the same size of Earth.

Next we moved on to the National Arts gallery and there, we saw mini models of train engines (locomotives). Then we saw a boiler and a huge horse chariot. Then we saw swords used by great fighters.

After finishing the arts gallery we came to the end of the trip. It was a wonderful experience for our school students and it was also a very good location chosen by our school for a fieldtrip.

      REPORT ON MEUSEUM VISIT

It was a very memorable and interesting experience going to the meuseum situated in Egmore, Chennai. We came to know that th Government Meuseum in India. We came to know that Government meuseum of chennai is the second oldest Meuseum in India. It is known for its versatile collection of coins , medals , statues and sculptures of the ancient and pre historicdays. The Bontany section , astonishingly , has awidevariety of trees.

 

Sculptures :-

It had a variety of sculptures like that of Kali (Bhadrakali) , Lord Vishnu , Nataraj , Ganesha , Ayyanar , etc… Their authenticity and fascinating descriptions were attracting a huge crowd of students.

 

Coins:-

After seeing the vedic period sculptures, We went over to the bronze coins section. We were surprised by the unlimited collection from the british period. They had coins from the great Akbar’s , Tipu Sultan’s and Indo – England period. Also , They had a magnified version of the origianal . Small coins of Gold,Bronze and Electrum on a simple metal.

 

 

 

 

Bronze Statues:-

 

Coming from well before 15th century

, There wereBronze statues of various gods and goddesses. Included wwere Lord Shiva ‘s form of Nataraja, Parvati, Ganesha and also many famous devotees of Lord Shiva. All the stories of the Hindu culure and Gita came back flooding in my mind. They were not only collections , but signs of Indian culture , Authenticity and art.

 

We appreciate the idea anf arrangements taken up by the teachers to provide us a learning experience. We learnt a lot and are very happy the We got an oppurtunity to re-discover our heritage and ethnicity.
